T-Shirts on sale soon!!!

Trish Earley designed a t-shirt that will be in sale as soon as we get a bid for prices. The shirt will be black with the attached design on the front. On the back will be the quote "What you do speaks so loudly I cannot hear what you say."

Large Group Speech reminders!

  • ALL groups are to practice with either Ms. Reeve or myself at least FOUR times prior to registration for Districts.  I register you January 4.  We come back to school January 3.  If you have not done those practices, you will not be registered.
  • Remember that if you fail a class you are ineligible to participate in Districts, which means you are done with Large Group.
  • Remember that if you are on the study table list beginning January, and you don't make it to two of the three times, you will be ineligible for Districts.
NEXT MEETING WILL BE TO GIVE SCHEDULES TO DISTRICTS.  ALL MEMBERS MUST BE THERE.

2011-2012 Season Begins!!!!

The informative meeting for Large Group Speech was held in the auditorium October 14. We had 52 students show interest in the speech program!! :)

Students were given a handbook, which included colored pages that need to be signed and turned back in to Mrs. Horn by November 8. If you have lost your handbook or the papers, please see Mrs. Horn ASAP.

Drama and Speech Award Banquet

The banquet will be held in the high school cafeteria on Monday April 25 at 6:00 pm. You will be getting an invite in the mail soon with specifics, but just in case something goes wrong, here's the main points:

  • Those students receiving a letter in drama and/or speech (anyone involved with the play and anyone who made it to State in Large Group or Individual) will be getting their certificates and letters/pins that evening.
  • We will be having a potluck: Seniors - desserts, Juniors - salads or finger foods, Sophomores and Freshmen - main dish
  • Drinks, silverware, plates and napkins will be provided.
  • Please RSVP to Mrs. Horn by April 18. I need to know how many in your family will be attending so we know how many people to expect. You can call me at home, text/call my cell, or email me (hornl@roschools.com).

Individual State Speech Results

We had an awesome day on Saturday in Glenwood! Not that I'm surprised, since I already knew how awesome these kids are. The results are listed below.

Students receiving straight ones (the best you can do) in their events were:

It has been an absolutely amazing year. I am so very VERY proud of how all the kids have done throughout the season (both Large Group AND Individual). I couldn't have asked for a better group of kids, a more talented group of kids, or a more fun group of kids to work with. :) Thank you, all of you, for making this season such a terrific one. It's because of you that I do this job - it's because of you that I love this job.

Individual State Schedule

Here's the schedule as it stands now. Usually there aren't many drops at State (if there are, it's last minute due to illness or emergency things). I will get to as many as I can, but as you can see, we are once again overlapping with many different events.

We will be leaving the school at 6:30 am. State contest is in Glenwood, for those interested in attending.

There will be a MANDATORY meeting during seminar on Tuesday March 8 for all qualifiers. You MUST be there to attend contest on Saturday. We will cover information about Saturday as well as the public performance on Thursday March 10.

Public Performance: Evening with the Stars

We are going to be holding a public performance night for the students who qualified for the State competition. It will give them a chance to perform in front of an audience prior to State, plus gives the community and parents a chance to see what these kids do.


It will be Thursday March 10 in the high school media center at 6:00 pm. I’m asking parents if they would be able to provide a dessert (cookies or brownies or bars – something simple and not too messy ). If you are able to help out, please let me know ASAP. If you wouldn’t be able to help with desserts, would you be able to help provide napkins or paper cups or something (we’re planning on something to drink – not sure what yet).


I've tried to contact as many parents as possible via email, and will be calling others. There will also be posters around the town, plus I'll be contacting Jerry and the newspaper. :) Hopefully we have a terrific turnout!
