Individual District Speech Results

Congrats to everyone for an excellent showing at Shen!!!! I'm so very proud of all of you for all of your performances.

I honestly think we have the best speech team in the state. You guys work hard, you care about what you do, and you put your hearts and souls into your performances. Plus, you're pretty entertaining to be around :) Add all of that to the talent you possess, and you're pretty much unstoppable. I absolutely love my job as speech coach because I get to work with such amazing kids.

Don't forget to sign up for practices for State :)

THANK YOU!!!

I do want to give everyone a huge THANK YOU for all the support the team received on Monday's Public Performance night. It was awesome to see so many people in the audience and I know it meant a lot to the kids as well. I am so very proud of all the kids and I loved the opportunity to "show them off" :) They've worked hard and deserve the recognition they are receiving. Thank you again for all the support you've shown!!!

Schedule for Districts

This is a condensed schedule with only our students. TIMES ARE APPROXIMATE!!! Err on the early side and be there before this time. Also, check your centers for any drops. Please go watch your teammates unless you are competing. Do not just stay in the gym (or wherever the “holding area” will be). I will NOT be able to make everyone’s performances. I will go to seniors first and get to as many overall as possible, but (as you can see) many of the times overlap or are so close together that it’s impossible (until someone shows me how to be in more than one place at once).

** I do not know Center 4's Room number at this point. The master schedule did not have that printed on it and I am awaiting information from the host school. I will post it as soon as I know it. **

Individual Districts Information

Individual Districts Saturday February 27
• Bus leaves at 7:00 – BE HERE AT LEAST 15 MINUTES PRIOR TO THAT!!! We have 5 students performing within 10 minutes of the 8:00 start time. We need time to get there, to get situated, and to find the centers.
• We will be at the MIDDLE School in Shen. PLEASE make your parents and anyone else going aware of that!
• Also, please be aware: Enter the building through the South Main entrance only. There will be a short walk to get from the parking lot to the middle school.
• Bring money for food – there is a concession stand at the school.
• Please remember that the attached schedule is TENTATIVE! If there are drops or something goes faster (if one of the performers doesn’t use the entire “maximum” time, for example) the times would be incorrect. Be at the center EARLY.
NO PHOTOGRAPHING OR VIDEOTAPING ALLOWED WITHOUT WRITTEN CONSENT FROM THE STATE OFFICE. STUDENTS AND TEAM COULD BE DISQUALIFIED IF THAT OCCURS!! We have NEVER been allowed to photograph or videotape a performance in speech.
• Remember to turn off all cell phones when you are in the performance rooms.
• Please help keep noise low in the hallways. Make me proud! I know I have the best kids in the State, show it to everyone else!
• Do not plan on leaving with parents unless there is a prior commitment. Your parent MUST sign a paper with me beforehand. It’s important to stay to encourage and support your teammates.
• Parents are encouraged to attend if at all possible. There is a suggested $3 entrance fee for non-competitors.
• I will have your comment sheets and black paper. If your script is NOT on black paper already, see me ASAP!

Large Group State Speech results

Long day in Ankeny, but a really great day in Ankeny :) I want to say how proud I am of each and every group for their hard work and their performances at State. Remember, you guys are part of Red Oak history -- never before have we taken that many groups and that many kids to State! :) That, in and of itself, is something to be very proud of. You all made me proud to be your coach yesterday (not that that's a new thing).

Groups with straight 2s were:
* Group Improv - Codie, Ali and Casey
* Readers Theater - Brad, Brandy, Devin and Kathryn
* Ensemble - Codie, Katherine, Kelsey and Sarah

Groups with straight 1s were:
* Group Improv - Dylan, Michelle, Lauren and Sarah
* Group Improv - Brittany, Andrea, Stephanie and Kristi

Finally, a HUGE "Thank You" to all the parents who helped with doughnuts, milk and juice in the morning and sack lunches and dessert during the day. It was GREATLY appreciated!!!

STATE LARGE GROUP - WEATHER

At this point in time, we are still leaving at 8:00 am. LOOKING AT THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION WEBSITE, ALL ROADS WE WOULD TRAVEL ARE LISTED AS NORMAL CONDITIONS FOR THE SEASON. I will be meeting with Mr. Sherman after school today to discuss if we need to change anything. I have been checking the Ankeny web site and nothing is posted at this time. I did email Ankeny's speech coach to see what the weather was like up that direction so I could pass along that information. I will add that to the blog once I get an email reply back. Please be assured that we will be taking the weather into consideration once we get all the information we can.
